WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY OUR INITIATIVES IN TRUE SPIRIT OF INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF BIODIVERSITY

Planetary Society, India in association with Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science and Technology, Govt of Andhra Pradesh, Aliens Space Foundation ,Chaitanya Residential School Uppal are celebrating WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY statewide.

As part of this on 4th June, 2010 a press meet was conducted in order to assist
 to assist Media with content and promote awareness among general public. This is one of the series of activities commemorating United Nation’s Proclamation of Year 2010 as “International Year of Biodiversity”.

HIGHLIGHTS OF PRESS MEET :

1. Special Compact Disk Released: A Special compact Disk comprising of videos, powerpoint, facts etc..was released on the occasion. Which later was distributed to Media for assistance in communicating  The C.D. contains 45 Min Videos compiled from various sources to assist Media. Copy of CD

2. Poster Release: Further series of posters were released covering various aspects of biodiversity.

3. State Wide Activities Announced – With The help of NCSC District Coordinators:  importantly activities are being organized in various districts of the state. Importantly Special Compact Disk, Set of Posters are being delivered with necessary material for organizing following activities in various districts. 

i.                     Awareness Session using Computer or VCD
ii.                   Eco –Walk /Rally
iii.                  Plantation of Plants
iv.                 Local Press Coordination, Material/Pamphlets Distribution

Note: Considering 2010 being declared Biodiversity Year major part of  above activities would be implemented once the schools reopen after vacation.

REQUESTS:

1. To Environmental NGO’s and Government :  India being signatory to The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Society expresses it concern for lack of wide spread celebrations/Awareness /Action oriented activities on biodiversity by Government and Other Allied agencies involving general public particularly student community. 

2. Request to Public : In tune with Secretary General’s Call to Nations society requests people to conserve Biodiversity as we share this earth with thousands of species known and unknown to us and they are in danger dues to human activities. .“Biodiversity is Life, Biodiversity is our Life” Ban Ki Moon Secretary General United Nations.
